Vapors Magazine vs. Jay Lewis

So the guys from Vapors Magazine awarded me the cover of their annual sneaker issue, pretty cool as they have some really talented artists involved, use great paper (super important!), and did a double spread – which ain’t a bad thing. In general, a quality magazine which covers everything from skateboarding, music and street culture.

We were successful at recreating the typical line that forms outside of specialty boutiques when a sneaker release is anounced, but the shoot was the shortest I’ve ever had and it wasn’t without it’s perils. (If you’ve been under a rock, the sneakerhead is is a subculture of devotees who will campout days in advance to make sure they get their hands on the latest limited-edition Nike, Adidas or Puma.) Well Rob, Treis and the Alife crew rounded up friends, artists, employees and devotees to stand out front while I snapped away…in a thunderstorm….holding my umbrella with my left hand while shooting with my right. Oh yeah, there were also some sort of Mafia who showed up and tried to park out front where we were shooting, I still can’t believe a fight didn’t breakout. Don’t mess with Earsnot man!

They also published my recent shots of the Korean World Champion BBoy Team “The Drifterz”. If you’ve watched my blog you’ve seen the outtakes in the past couple of months, if not check them here.
Here’s a few picks but run and buy it while it’s still in stores!

PUMA and Rude join forces once again as MFT returns this week to APT — and our brand new Thursday night home. To celebrate we’ve imported one of the best selectors in the ‘deep’ south, Kai Alce. Kai is from Atlanta via Detroit, and is known internationally as a DJ and producer, working with labels like Kenny Dixon Jr’s Mahogoni and Brett Dancer’s Track Mode. He is also a Rude veteran having played one of the original sessions. Joining him will be residents Tyler Askew and Big Bang.

Upstairs, as part of our Artists in Residence series, we invite you to rock to the sounds of design supremo Billions McMillions & Friends.

Fall is coming and I’m off to LA to shoot an ad campaign for McCann Erickson/Intel. Pretty excited but I’m going to miss the fam and the falling leaves….

If anyone has any contacts in LA or San Fran, etc let me know or say hi so we can catch up. I’m going to stay out there for a while; specifically I’m trying to shoot skateboarding and music/fashion (and relax if I can).
