Ali D. was on hand to help me with a New Era shoot yesterday, here he is letting the ladies know as we got our lighting together. We go back to the days of Underoos so it was great fun having him around.

A belated XMas gift from Miss Julie Le, I love it! The Fujifilm Instax Mini 7S polaroid camera was made famous by my friend Yone and I’ve wanted one ever since my last visit to his studio. Big thanks Julie!!!

I brought it to a product shoot for the good people at Enki on Wednesday, I didn’t shoot still life with it but I did catch Alec, Ro & their kids afterwards.

Just got a great holiday gift from one of my favorite photographers, David Burnett. A signed copy of his recent book Soul Rebel. An Intimate Portrait of Bob Marley. Soul Rebel honors Bob’s 60th anniversary and is a must have for, well, everyone. Bob Marley people! David Burnett!

David is a photojournalist with more than 4 decades of experience covering the news and tempo of our age. He is co-founder of Contact Press Images, the New York-based photojournalism agency now entering its 33rd year. Furthermore, in a recent issue of American Photo magazine Burnett was named one of the "100 Most Important People in Photography." Boom!

Click here for a look inside and more. And click here for David’s website. Many thanks Dave!!!

A bit of this & that.

This was the final shot before my Canon 5D died, RIP my friend. And yes, I did learn to wakeboard on the same river that they shot “The Host!”

A film still featuring the designer/rapper/actor Peter Chung from an upcoming short film I shot with Brent Rollins in Incheon. Stay tuned…

It was exciting to see my photos reworked by Brent Rollins. R16 branding was everywhere in Korea, including the stage in these shots. Here’s some flics from the Solo BBoy Competition, these guys are beyond athletic.

For our first rendezvous Pooroni took me to a fun “school foods” dinner and afterwards I took a few shots of her in someone’s driveway. Pooroni is a freelance graphic designer and a illustrator based in Seoul, Korea. She is currently a researcher in the doctoral program at Seoul National University. Pooroni designs, draws, studies and teaches, smiles big and is adept at tackling both minor and major inclines.
Her favorite place is Kinkos.

Big thanks to Rich Lim and Keeyoon Kang for playing catch! Big thanks to Pooroni for being so fun!

I’m a big fan of Pooroni AND her work; here’s some examples I grabbed from her site.

Here’s a sample of some B-Boys who competed in this year’s tournament in Incheon, Korea. I had a little time to experiment and will be posting more soon. Great times once again, looking forward to 2010.

I’m in Incheon, and I stopped by the R16 Wall Lords Competition to see what the Korean Graf writers had to offer, very impressive! Also, the Korean BBoys were competing to represent Korea in the UK B-Boy Championship Solo Competition. More info here.

Ewok from The 7th Letter Crew was in town with Pose (below) to put up some pieces and judge the competition. Amazing artists and really great guys. Casey was also in town to document, I’m glad we had a chance to connect again and I look forward to keeping up with their work.

Ivy MC’d the B-Boy Competition, I will reveal more on Ivy in the next 2 weeks…

Every year the B-girls get more impressive.

Brent Rollins did a great job with the logo and branding, I’m especially happy with what he did with my pics. The Invasion guys (background) came from Hong Kong to do some judging. This is definitely an International affair!

“I have a dream!” Painted by Koreans!

I’m really, really, really excited to be back in Korea with friends and family, I’ll be shooting R16 and continuing various projects I began last summer. Only one of which I’ve ever shared so here’s a real start.
R16 is a massive BBoy competition pitting the best teams in the world against each other. Think of it as America’s Best Dance Crew on steroids. And with taste. Part of my commission included team shots and portraits – 15 countries in attendance, 16 teams of 10 stellar athletes and 2 afternoons to do it. Here’s a sample from ‘08. Please click here for an alternate post.

I received an email from family in S. Korea announcing that we lost our good friend Emil Goh. He died of a heart attack in Seoul where he was living.
The news of Emil passing suddenly has hit me pretty hard as we became good friends in my month in Seoul last summer. Beyond being a good friend, he spent many days introducing me to the amazing art scene in Seoul as well as people like the Chillzine girls, 360 Sounds and Daily Projects amongst others. He brought me to art openings and introduced me to fantastic dinner spots throughout the city. He was easily one of the most selfless AND talented people I’ve been fortunate to meet and I feel blessed to have called him a friend.
Here’s Emil, a few of his designs and some of the people we encountered together.

I first met Suitman with Emil, another fantastic artist and great personality.

Hong Sukwoo, a freelance fashion journalist. Hong runs a photo-documentary project about Seoul, Your Boyhood.

Left: Sulki Choi and Min Choi are graphic designers currently based in Seoul, Korea. They met in 2001 at Yale University where they were both students of the MFA graphic design program. Since then, they have been working together on various commissioned as well as self-initiated projects. Their website is a must see, check it here

Just got this PDf from the kids at Theme, they do great work and their new issue, curated by friend and photographer Peter Sutherland is in stores now. Here’s a look at my shoot of Rachel Trachtenburg of the Trachtenburg Slideshow Family Players.

A few more pics from this shoot, Rachel is an extreme pleasure to work with and we shall shoot again… Many thanks to Julie Le for styling, Samantha Pleet for the purple jumper and the black shorts and my brother Rich Lim for production and location assistance.
