In the of Fall 2010, my close friends launched BEAT ROCKERS, a beatboxing class for blind and visually impaired students at the Lavelle School for the Blind in the Bronx.
The purpose of the program is to empower blind and visually impaired students through music by teaching them exciting and easily accessible ways to create music using their own bodies as instruments. In this context, the students have no need for outside assistance or equipment. They can make their own music whenever they want, wherever they are, and with whomever they want. Through beatboxing, the music becomes dialogue – a powerful source for communication and collaboration.
The BEAT ROCKERS program was a huge success, and needs your support to continue in 2011. All funds raised will be used to provide this program for the next three months at the Lavelle School for the Blind. The money will go towards teaching fees, transportation, guest instructors, equipment rentals, and basic expenses.
Pledge $5 or more via Kickstarter and you’ll receive various collector’s items (in addition to being awesome!!!).
